LITERARY TALENT: Hannah Rudden pictured after winning her latest prize.

A NORTHSIDE girl was celebrating recently after winning an award in a prestigious literary competition.

Hannah Rudden (14), a student at Loreto Secondary School, Balbriggan, won a major award at Listowel Writers’ Week 2015.

Hannah’s award winning story, entitled

‘Autumn’, received first prize in the 14 and Under Creative Writing category and is now published in the Listowel Writers’ Week winners’ anthology 2015, which is available from bookshops nationwide.

Novelists, poets, playwrights, short story writers, essayists, friends and sponsors gathered in the North Kerry town once again to celebrate the literary culture of Ireland at the 44th opening ceremony of Listowel Writers’ Week.

Even at such an early age, Hannah is no stranger to literary success. At the 2013 Listowel Festival she won first prize for her story

‘Best friend amongst the shadows’.

Also, several of her stories have been published and she has garnered numerous awards for her writing.

The highlight of Hannah’s evening in Kerry was meeting Ireland’s first fiction Laureate Anne Enright and Colm Tóibín after receiving her award at a ceremony held in the Listowel Arms Hotel.
