DOZENS of housing projects have been given the green light across the Southside as the Government unveiled the first part of a new social strategy.
A total of 15 new housing projects are set to get underway across Dublin thanks to an investment of over
?¬95 million as part of the first phase of the Goverment’s Social Housing Strategy.
Deputy Catherine Byrne (FG) said this will have a really positive impact on Dublin’s housing waiting list.
“I am delighted that over
?¬95 million is being invested in these Dublin projects, in what is just the first phase of the overall investment,
? she said.
“All of these projects are shovel ready and will deliver hundreds of much needed houses in every county. The projects are also good news for jobs with the creation of construction jobs as well as the in- direct economic benefit to shops and businesses in the areas where the housing is being built.
“In my own constituency of Dublin South Central, 45 new units are to be developed at Cornamoma, in Ballyfermot, with an investment of
?¬9.25 million.

Nationally
?¬312 million has been approved by the Minister for Environment Alan Kelly and Minister for Housing, Planning & Construction, Paudie Coffey.
An additional 1,700 social houses will be ready by 2017 with an estimated 300 additional jobs in construction created.
Labour TD Eamonn Maloney said the approval of
?¬40.8 million worth of public house building for the South Dublin County Council area would deliver 203 units in areas such as Tallaght, Lucan, Rathfarnham and Clondalkin.
“This is the first major house- building programme in South County Dublin for many years and the first phase of the Government’s Social Housing Strategy,
? he said.
“It is great to see it now begin to trickle down to local ar- eas and deliver tangible results.
“Projects that have been given the green light today include Fortunestown, Dromcarra and Owendoher.

Fine Gael Senator Cáit Keane, said the 85 new housing projects that are due to begin in Dublin South-West will bring investment jobs and houses to the area.

?¬17 million funding as part of this first phase of investment, leading to 85 of housing projects,
? she said.
In Dun Laoghaire Deputy Eamon Gilmore (Lab) said it was

? to see the Government’s Social Housing Strategy delivering tangible results.
“Over
?¬21.4 million in fund- ing has been made available for the construction of 89 new social housing units in Dun Laoghaire Rathdown,
? he stated.
“Projects that have been given the green light include Broadford Rise (14 Units), Fitzgerald Park (50 units), St Michael Terrace (4 units) and Rochestown House (14 units).

Deputy Mary Mitchell O’Connor said the announcement would bring investment, jobs and houses to Dún Laoghaire.
“I am delighted that we will receive over
?¬21 million funding as part of this first phase of investment, leading to a total of 89 housing projects,
? she said.
Minister Alex White also welcomed the announcement.
“I warmly welcome the approval of the proposed housing development in Ballinteer by the Department for the Environment, Community and Local Government,
? he said.
“This development will see a significant investment of
?¬5.1million in 21 new homes.
