Concerns over aviation fuel pipeline plan

Concerns over aviation fuel pipeline plan

NORTHSIDE residents have until next Tuesday (May 12) to make submissions or observations on an aviation fuel pipeline that will link Dublin Port to Dublin Airport.

Fingleton White & Co. Ltd, on behalf of Independent Pipeline Company, has applied to both Dublin City Council and Fingal County Council for the project.

The fuel will be pumped from an inlet station in Dublin Port to a reception station at Dublin Airport.

The proposed 14.4km route for the continuously welded steel pipeline (200mm in diameter) is along East Wall Road, Alfie Byrne Road, Clontarf Road, Howth Road, Copeland Avenue and Malahide Road.

It then enters the Fingal County Council administrative area at Clonshaugh Road and routes via the AUL/FAI sports ground, under the M1 motorway via the DAA long-term

‘Red’ carpark, adjacent to Eastlands Car Hire compound, the ALSAA complex, under the Swords Road and via Corballis Road to a reception station at the airport.

A spokesperson for Dublin City Council said a decision is due on June 2.

Sean Haughey, a Fianna Fail councillor for the Clontarf Local Electoral Area (LEA), said he was very concerned about the proposal.

“Many local residents are simply unaware that this pipeline will be passing by their front doors and those that have heard about it have serious health and safety worries,

? he claimed.

Dublin Bay North TD Tommy Broughan (Ind) said he was strongly opposed to the plan and has requested a special debate in the Dáil with Minister for the Environment, Alan Kelly.

Renua Ireland TD for Dublin Bay North, Terence Flanagan, said:

“I have concerns about the impact the construction of the pipeline would have on employment in the transportation sector and have made enquiries regarding how many road tanker drivers would be made redundant as a result of the project.

Dublin Bay North TD Finian McGrath (Ind) has written to his constituents informing them of the application.

“I will be lodging my own strenuous objection to this proposal along several grounds, including the fact we now have the Dublin Port Tunnel in place for fuel truck use, health and safety concerns,, inappropriate route and proximity to homes and schools as well as environmental concerns,

? he told residents.

A spokesperson for Fingleton White & Co. Ltd told Northside People it would not be making any comment during the planning process.

?If people have concerns they can make a submission to their local authority,

? the spokesperson said.
