SIX young people from the Northside recently held their second annual fundraiser dedicated to their late friend.

In February 2013, Jack Dalton, from Portmarnock, passed away, aged just 19, after a battle with Ewings Sarcoma.

Portmarnock Fights Cancer, a Foundation dedicated to his memory, comprises Orlagh Geoghegan, Aideen Walsh, Kate O’Hagan, Meggan Ward, Cameron Ward and Jack Comey.

The second Portmarnock Fights Cancer event took place at the Portmarnock Sports and Leisure Club (PSLC) and the total sum raised for the Irish Cancer Society was

?¬9,546.

The fundraiser included a 10-hour

‘Basketballathon’, a table quiz, a cake sale and a non-uniform day at Portmarnock Community School where all the group are former students. A total of

?¬1,460 was raised from the uniform day.

Orlagh Geoghegan, a spokesperson for the group, said the entire process highlighted the generous nature of people in the local community who donated their time, money and resources for the cause.

“We contacted businesses locally and beyond and we were blown away with the support we received,

? she said.

“These companies contributed over 50 spot prizes which were an important source of our fundraising through our raffle.

“After all our efforts it was a huge success and we raised just under

?¬10,000 for the Irish Cancer Society.

The Portmarnock Fights Cancer team would like to sincerely thank everyone who donated their time, money, skills and raffle prizes to their cause.
