LOCAL Independent TD Terence Flanagan has invited his constituents to make submissions regarding new transport proposals for Dublin.

The National Transport Authority (NTA) is drawing up a new transport strategy for the Greater Dublin Area and is welcoming submissions from members of the public regarding their ideas.

“I encourage all residents to submit their concerns and thoughts to the NTA so that they can be considered when drawing up the transport strategy,

? said Deputy Flanagan.

“The strategy will, amongst other things, examine public transport needs in the Greater Dublin Area.

“I am glad that the strategy will look at a long-term plan for Dublin and ensure that public transport links will be in proximity to areas where there will be future residential development.

Deputy Flanagan added:

“The last report was undertaken in 2011 and due to significant changes and growth of the city since then a new review is needed.

Meanwhile, Dublin Chamber of Commerce believes the Government must triple capital investment in transport to prevent congestion from becoming a barrier to economic growth in the Greater Dublin Area.

Its chief executive Gina Quin said:

“Government plans to spend around

?¬150 million per year on transport in the GDA just isn’t enough compared to our international competitors or to keep up with growth.

“If you benchmark Dublin against Manchester and a per-capita-adjusted London, we see spending of

?¬367 million and

?¬462 million, respectively.

“What’s more, these cities have invested significantly in their infrastructure in recent years to enhance already strong transport systems.

? Ms Quin added:

“Tripling our transport investment will at least allow us to keep pace with these competitors and with our own growth.

The consultation on the new Transport Strategy will be open to submissions until March 2.

Submissions can be made online on www.nationaltransport.ie or by email to gdatransportstrategy@nationaltransport.ie.
