Pyrite found at local bus depot

THE Dublin Bus depot at Harristown has been affected by the destructive mineral pyrite, Northside People can reveal.

The issue is currently the subject of an arbitration process but there are fears that the bill to rectify the problem could run into tens of thousands.

Dublin North West TD, Dessie Ellis (SF), said he was concerned the depot could be forced to close if the damage was widespread.

“It will be a costly exercise,

? he said.

“There’s always huge expense when pyrite is involved.

Several estates across Dublin have been affected by pyrite, which can expand and cause major structural damage to buildings. All defective infill has be removed from under the affected structure, meaning buildings have to be vacated while the work is being done.

Dublin Bus confirmed the discovery of pyrite but played down suggestions that the depot, where a number of Northside buses including the number 13 terminate, may close.

“A decision on how remediation works will be undertaken will be made once the arbitration process has concluded,

? a spokesperson said.

“Dublin Bus does not anticipate the closure of Harristown depot during the works.
