A SPECIAL meeting is being held by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council to discuss a report on the Badeschiff Baths.
Council planners gave the go-ahead for the Dun Laoghaire
‘urban beach’ project before Christmas.
However, An Bord Pleanala later confirmed that two valid appeals were lodged with its office before the January 25 closing date.
As a result, a special meeting has been called for by a number of councillors from the Independent Group, the Green Party, People Before Profit and Sinn Féin.
Commenting on what he described as the latest setback for the
?¬2.5 million barge swimming baths project for the harbour, Cllr Victor Boyhan (Ind) said:
“Due process must be allowed and the two parties that lodged objections to the scheme had every right to do so and this must be respected.
?
Cllr Boyhan added that it would be
“foolhardy
? for the council to advance any public monies for the project in advance of final determination by An Bord Pleanala.
“At the special council meeting I will be asking that the council agrees to await the outcome of the appeals process before handing over any public monies to this project.
“It is, of course, open to the board to make significant changes to the proposal or indeed reject the proposal altogether – that’s their sole prerogative.
?
According to a report prepared by the council for the upcoming meeting, the County Manager recommended that the council allocate
?¬1.5m towards the project, subject to several conditions.
