A FITNESS studio in Ashbourne is challenging its clients to run the New York Marathon for Temple Street Children’s Hospital.
Stringer Fitness has its sights firmly set on the Big Apple and raising
?¬100,000 for the children’s hospital
Every year since 2006 Temple Street Children’s Hospital has sent a team of runners to New York to take part in one of the world’s most iconic road races.
Last year a team of 25, led by Temple Street Ambassador and Comedian Jason Byrne took on the city that never sleeps. The team also included 10 fitness enthusiasts from Stringer Fitness. The Stringer crew raised
?¬42,000 for the children’s hospital and are determined that this year is going to be an even bigger success.
The New York City Marathon, one of the six majors in the world, is a life-changing experience, as Jason and the team from Temple Street experienced on November 2 last.
However it’s even more special when you can stand on the start line knowing you have made a difference to a child’s life. It was following a visit to Temple Street that Jason Byrne decided he was going to
‘break his knees’ for sick kids.
Speaking about the challenge he said:
“A marathon truly brings the world together, and to run through the streets and boroughs of New York was truly amazing.
“And the best part was doing it with a team of great friends for a wonderful cause close to my heart.
?
One of Jason’s close friends and personal trainer John Lally, from Stringer Fitness added:
“We made the decision last year to run the New York Marathon for Temple Street.
“When we started to promote it in the gym, momentum around it just kept building. It was amazing to see everyone get behind Temple Street and also as a personal trainer – see people improve their own personal fitness.
“It also was a fantastic year that brought everyone together for a common goal – to make a difference to the lives of sick kids.
“Marathons hurt. Marathons are time consuming. But when you cross the finish line, the blood, sweat and tears are worth it, especially when we see the difference that it makes to Temple Street.
“This is why we are focused on encouraging as many members as possible to sign up and help us raise
?¬100,000 for this special children’s hospital.
?
Event Manager for Temple Street, Angela McNulty, agrees that a marathon is no easy feat.
“But I tell all of our runners, when you get tired, remember those who can’t run and what they would give to have this simple gift,
? she said.
“Our team runs with the children in Temple Street in their hearts and on their minds.
