A YOUNG adventurer has completed an epic trek through the Cuban jungle to raise funds for Make-A-Wish Ireland, the charity based in Leopardstown.

Nicole McVeigh successfully completed the challenge to raise

?¬3.425 for Make-A-Wish Ireland by using JustGiving, the world’s social platform for giving.

Make-A-Wish Ireland grant wishes for children living with life-threatening medical conditions. As they don’t receive Government funding, they rely completely on the kindness of the public.
The Southside charity was able to grant more wishes over Christmas, thanks to the fundraising efforts of their super supporter.

“Trekking Cuba has always been an interest of mine,

? Nicola explained.

“I was so excited to go and thought doing charity work as well as trekking Cuba would be amazing.

“I began my fundraising by doing bag packing days in Tescos which raised a lot of money to start me off. I got many donations on JustGiving, which was fantastic.

“The trip was unbelievable experience,

? she added.

“The challenge itself was difficult but when I finished I was so overwhelmed with pride and joy I cried.

Irene Timmins, Head of Fundraising for Make-A-Wish Ireland, described what the fund raising meant for the charity.

“We don’t have many people who take part in treks for us, so Nicole’s fundraiser is an unusual income source for us,

? she said.

“We have over 200 children waiting for their wish to be granted and we are receiving one new application every other day.

“They deserve to be granted their special wish as a reward for battling their illness and a break from the routine of injections, hospital visits and tests.

To date JustGiving have helped 22 million people raise over

?¬3 billion for 13,000 incredible causes.
