THREE members of a four-piece Ballymun band reunited last month to raise funds for the charity named after their drummer who lost his life to suicide.

The band was QED and back in the early

’80s they had high hopes of making it in the music industry.

The honed their talent in St Pappin’s Schoolhouse, lugging their gear to the Ballymun building in Quinnsworth trolleys.

The band’s original line-up was Derek Byrne (drums), Paul Fagan (bass), Michael Fitzgerald (guitar) and Mark Burke (guitar).

Later Pat Daly replaced Paul on the bass while Andy Morgan took up the sticks from Derek to become the drummer.

The band became established on Dublin’s music scene, keeping their dream alive of stardom
alive, but they didn’t get the breaks and eventually turned off the amps for the last time in 1986.

Last year Michael, Pat and Mark began practicing again for a very special gig in the Axis Centre, which they played last month.

Proceeds from the poignant gig were donated to the Andy Morgan Foundation, set up in their drummer’s name after he took his own life on New Year’s Eve in 2010.
