FINGLAS chef Chris Fullam will battle it out with four other top culinary kings later this month for the prestigious title of Euro-Toques Young Chef of the Year 2014.
The 21-year-old local made it into the final five after tickling the taste buds of high profile judges such as Domini Kemp and Graham Neville in the initial stages of the competition.
Chris, who’s a third year Culinary Arts student at Dublin Institute of Technology, is now in with a chance of winning an all-expenses paid stage at two-starred Michelin restaurant, The Square in London’s Mayfair.
Proprietor and chef at The Square, Phil Howard, will be the special guest judge for the final of the competition, which will be held on Sunday, November 23, at a yet to be revealed venue in Dublin.
Renowned Euro-Toques members, including Paul Kelly and JP McMahon, will also be on hand to assess the final five as they compete in the last stages.
The Euro-Toques Young Chef of the Year has been showcasing the best of Irish talent for 24 years now and the theme for the 2014 competition is
‘No Chef is an Island’, which candidates have interpreted in myriad of ways.
In association with Fáilte Ireland and sponsored by La Rousse Foods, the competition’s main aim is to search for Ireland’s young food heroes that contribute to developing Irish cooking and promote our cuisine at home and abroad.
Wade Murphy, President of Euro-Toques Ireland and Chef/Proprietor 1826 Adare, said it had been a fascinating experience to meet Chris and his four competitors.
“They come from a great variety of backgrounds, bringing with them very different experiences and perspectives,
? he said.
“It’s going to be really interesting to see how they perform individually in the final stages of the competition and how they evolve in the process.
“These chefs are intelligent, passionate, conscientious people in addition to being very talented cooks.

Chris will be really up against it in the final. Two of his rivals are Chef de Partie in reknowned Chapter One restaurant.
