Who'll fix this leak?

A SINGLE burst pipe on Dun Laoghaire’s West Pier has resulted in the waste of millions of gallons of water, it has been claimed.

According to Cllr Karl Gill of People Before Profit, the burst pipe has been leaking water for over eight months and is causing significant damage to that part of the pier.
The councillor described the situation as a

“complete fiasco

? and called for immediate repairs to be carried out.

“Millions of gallons of water have been lost as Irish Water and Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council refuse responsibility for the burst pipe on the pier,

? Cllr Gill stated.
He called on the Minister for the Environment to intervene and instruct Irish Water to fix the pipe immediately.

Cllr Gill added:

“This is an inevitable consequence of the establishment of Irish Water and exposes the nonsense the Government talks about water conservation.

“The whole situation is a mess. The council won’t fix it because Irish Water won’t instruct them to and Irish Water won’t fix it because they say the land is on private property,

? he claimed.

“As far as I’m concerned this is just chickens coming home to roost for the Government. I am calling on the Minister to demand that Irish Water stop allowing the waste of water by attempting to wash their hands of the situation.

“This is all the more reason why Irish Water needs to be opposed and why people need to come out on the national protests to fight the privatisation of our water service.

“We can’t afford to allow them to make a mess of our most important natural resource.

Irish Water said they were aware of the issue.

“We are aware of the situation and we are working closely with the council to rectify the issue as soon as possible.

A spokesperson for Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council said they were

“committed to working with all parties to resolve the situation as soon as possible

?.
