A SOUTHSIDE councillor has welcomed assurances by South Dublin County Council that action will continue to be taken to deal with crime in Sean Walsh Park in Tallaght.
Cllr Charlie O’Connor (FF) said he had received numerous calls and complaints regarding security in the park.
According to Cllr O’Connor, there is great concern in the community of reports of recent alleged incidents in Sean Walsh Park and he called for action by the council.
“I strongly believe that the park, and indeed all our parks, should be safe at all times for the local community,
? Cllr O’Connor said.
Cllr O’Connor raised the issue at the Tallaght Area Committee.
He later received a report from the county council stating that staff were in regular contact with the gardai in relation to security issues in Sean Walsh Park.
“The council is aware of some problems in the park in recent months relating to anti-social behaviour, thefts of mobile phones and thefts of bicycles,
? the council wrote to the councillor.
“In this regard, the gardai have keys to access the park after hours and often make use of the existing CCTV facilities in the park to investigate such crimes.
“In addition, over the summer months the park has been targeted by the gardai for specific, dedicated patrols by the force including the mountain-bike unit, plain clothes and uniformed beats, and the Garda jeep, where necessary.
“The general security situation in Sean Walsh Park and other parks in the county will continue to be kept under review by the council, in close consultation with the gardai.

Cllr O’Connor also appealed to the community to report any such incidents directly to Tallaght Garda station.
