Meanwhile, across the rest of the Southside there will be a series of events taking place on September 19.

Culture Night comprises a diverse mix of hundreds of events with something to suit every age and interest, from live music to interactive tours.

South Dublin County Council’s Red Rua hosts the first ever performance of

‘Story Time’ a new solo dance work by Artist in Residence Lisa Tighe from 6 to 7pm.

This new work takes its inspiration from the songs and stories of Dublin City drawing on Dubliners’ innate ability as natural story tellers.

The Guinness Archives at the Guinness Storehouse offers a unique chance to have a specialised talk with the Guinness archivists and view their most precious documents, followed by a session in the exclusive Connoisseur Bar.

Meanwhile, to celebrate Culture night, the Irish Times, in partnership with the Merrion Square Network, is promoting a series of cultural events in the basement spaces of Merrion Square, bringing a half-hidden aspect of Georgian Dublin to stunning life.

Basements around Merrion Square will glow with light and colour. There will be curated art installations by leading contemporary artists, including video projections and sound in a series of spaces.

In another basement, a rolling programme of classical music will cause sounds to float up and out onto the square.

Culture Night at Airfield will see the house and gardens opening for tours, talks and activities as you explore the heritage exhibition and discover the lives of the Overend family with archival footage taken by the family.

Meanwhile, the Ranelagh Arts centre will screen rare archival footage of two documentary films,

‘The Poet and his City: James Joyce and Dublin’, (1964, German with English subtitles) and

‘The Dubliners: Live At The Brazen Head, 1967. Venue: The Village Market, Ranelagh’.
