Rugby star launches campaign for Concern and Women’s Aid

Rob walks a mile with the lads

IRISH rugby star Rob Kearney has launched a joint fundraising initiative with Concern and Women’s Aid – Walk a Mile in her Shoes.

Rob is encouraging men to step into a woman’s shoes and help raise funds and awareness to help prevent violence against women at home and abroad.

“I’m delighted to be involved in the Walk A Mile event with Concern and Women’s Aid,

? Rob said.

“The money raised goes directly to two fantastic charities that do great work in the area of women’s rights and supporting women and girls affected by violence both here in Ireland and overseas.

“It doesn’t take a lot of training to take part and should be great fun while at the same time raising awareness about a very serious issue.

There will be three events held around the country in Dublin, Cork and Galway on Saturday, September 13.

To take part in Dublin men need to wear high heels and walk a mile around the Point Village to raise money and awareness around violence against women.

Margaret Martin, Director of Women’s Aid, said: “Violence against women does not just affect women, it is a societal problem.

“It affects the men who care about them, their families, their friends, their co-workers, and their communities.

All funds for Concern go directly to their overseas gender violence programmes such as the programme to end sexual violence against women and girls in Sierra Leone.

All funds for Women’s Aid will go towards their National Free phone Helpline providing free, confidential support and information to women experiencing domestic abuse across the Republic of Ireland.
