A DESIGN Team has been selected for a new cultural landmark planned for Dublin.
Dublin City Council and the Parnell Square Foundation last week announced that Grafton Architects + Shaffrey Associates. has been selected to deliver on an ambitious design brief set for the redevelopment of Parnell Square Cultural Quarter (PSCQ).
The centrepiece of the Quarter will be the development of over 11,000m2, anchored by a new city library which will offer a mix of cultural facilities for Dublin at the former Coláiste Mhuire site and some adjacent properties.
International real estate investment and services company, Kennedy Wilson, will provide seed capital for the project on a philanthropic basis.
The company, which has its main European office in Dublin, will continue to provide expertise to assist in management and funding of the development through the Parnell Square Foundation.
It is anticipated that design work to planning application will be completed for submission by early Summer 2015.
Lord Mayor of Dublin, Christy Burke, welcomed the announcement.
“This is a significant milestone in the redevelopment of Parnell Square, a cultural and historic gem right on our doorstep,
? he said.
“This is the first and finest of our Georgian squares and this project will invigorate the north inner city, acting I’m sure as a catalyst to promote further economic and social regeneration in other areas of the city.
“It is great to see that a series of public meetings and workshops which took place over the past 12 months, involving all stakeholders from different social, economic and cultural perspectives, has informed the commissioning of the design and final design brief.
?
Mayor Burke added:
“I look forward to seeing the vision for the square being captured in the design by Grafton Architects + Shaffrey Associates and I wish them every success in bringing the project to fruition.
