Call for installation of water meters to cease

A NORTHSIDE councillor is calling on the Government to stop the water meter installation programme.

Cllr Micheal Mac Donncha (SF), who represents the Donaghmede local electoral area, was speaking after a protest on Tonlegee Drive last week.

“The Government should face the fact that it has lost the argument on water charges and should cease the rollout of water meters,

? Cllr Mac Donncha told Northside People.

“People gave a very clear verdict in the local and European elections – they can’t pay water charges and they don’t want water meters. Protests have taken place throughout Dublin and the country and in a number of places Irish Water has had to suspend operations.

Gardai were called to the scene at Tonlegee Drive following a stand-off between protestors and Irish Water contractors.

“This is a waste of Garda time and all because Environment Minister Phil Hogan and the Coalition Government are determined to force through these inequitable and unnecessary charges,

? added Cllr Mac Donncha.

“The Irish Water fiasco should be brought to an end and the installations should cease.”
