Niall has the write stuff

TALENTED: Niall Rudden pictured at the launch of Listowel Writers' Week with author Colm Tóibín.

A NORTH County Dublin student has won a prestigious award in the Listowel Writers’ Week Competition, following in the footsteps of his talented big sister who took home a prize last year.

Niall Rudden, a second class pupil at St Brendan’s National School, Loughshinny, was announced as one of the winners in the

‘nine and under, creative writing’ category.

Niall’s award-winning story, entitled

‘A Book-tastic Adventure’, has been published as part of the

‘Listowel Writers’ Week – Winners’ Anthology 2014′, which is available from bookshops nationwide.

This year’s festival recently opened with a star-studded awards ceremony in the Listowel Arms Hotel in the Kerry town. Niall was delighted to attend the ceremony with his family.

The event was launched by poet Paul Durcan and author Colm Tóibín.

Writing talent seems to run in the Rudden family. Niall’s sister Hannah came first in the under-12 category with her story,

‘Best Friend Amongst the Shadows’, at Listowel Writers’ Week last year.
