LOCAL people in Finglas are being urged to get behind a community campaign to raise funds for two mobile defibrillators.
The Finglas First Responders are running the fundraising drive and have already raised enough money for one defibrillator – but now they have issued a fresh appeal for funds so they can purchase a second.
It is envisaged the defibrillators, which cost e1,000 each, will help when emergency cases of cardiac arrest, choking or stroke arise in the local area.
The Responders programme spans a 2km radius so emergency cases can be reached in eight minutes.
First responders are dispatched after a 999 call comes through and the HSE are notified.
Finglas First Responders are also appealing for new volunteers to come forward for their programme, which is the brainchild of Bill Mullen from McKee Avenue, Finglas.
The fundraising campaign is being supported by Labour’s John Redmond, who is undergoing training on how to use a defibrillator.
“I’m so glad to get behind Finglas First Responders,
? he said.
“It’s essential to get expert medial help and stabilise patients lightening fast and Bill and his FFR team are real life voluntary super heroes.
?
A charity fundraiser to raise money for the lifesaving equipment is taking place in the Deputy Mayor off Jamestown Road at 8pm this Friday (May 30).
There’ll be raffles, quizzes and lots of prizes to be won on the night with a DJ and Karaoke providing music and entertainment for all.
