RESISTANCE to water charges continued on the Northside last week with a number of protests taking place.
Residents in Kilbarrack joined their counterparts in Raheny, Donaghmede and Edenmore by taking to the streets to oppose the installation of waters meters in their areas.
Maggie Trimble, a resident of Briarfield Road, Kilbarrack, was among those involved in the protest.

“They’ve taken the phone allowance off us and we have to pay a charge for our prescriptions. How do they expect us to live on our pension of

“We have to pay gas, ESB, bins, groceries and now water. We’re fed up paying all these taxes.

John Lyons, a People Before Profit Alliance candidate in the Beaumont-Donaghmede ward for the local elections, said:
“Resistance to the water charges will only spread in the days and weeks ahead, with a national demonstration due to take place in Dublin on September 20.
“This Government is in serious trouble if it proceeds with its plans to start billing people for water from October 1.
