Fundraisers have a head for heights

A BRAVE group of 35 Northside volunteers recently travelled to County Tyrone to face their fears in a bid to raise funds for North Dublin Chernobyl Children International.

They signed up to the Chernobyl

‘Head for Heights Challenge’ which took place at Todd’s Leap activity centre in Ballygawley.

The challenge comprised three height challenges including Ireland’s longest Zipwire nearly half a mile long; the Giant Swing which catapulted the volunteers out over a 100-foot cliff (in a harness we might add!); and the dreaded Dropzone which is a stuntman dive off a 30-foot platform onto a large inflatable cushion.

The event was organised by North Dublin Chernobyl Children’s International (CCI), an outreach group for Adi Roche’s CCI, officially founded in 1991.

Every year North Dublin CCI fundraises to help children affected by the disaster. The money raised helps to fund the many different programmes run by the organisation. The volunteers raised the fantastic amount of

?¬9,346.75.

Chairperson of North Dublin CCI, Trina Gilchriest, told Northside People:

“We had an amazing fun day out with a wonderful group of volunteers.

“We met some fantastic people, who although had never been involved in fundraising with us before, came on board and made a huge effort to bring in sponsorship to help the children we work with.

The money raised will be spent on a few different projects including helping to transport a group of children to North Dublin in June/July for much needed rest and recuperation from their contaminated homeland.
