A SOUTHSIDE children’s choir whose members have an average age of just eight years has released their own single in aid of GOAL’s Philippines emergency appeal.
The Kingston Academy of Music in Dalkey launched the single to help the charity that is working with the victims of Typhoon Haiyan, which struck the Philippines in November of last year.
The prestigious music school’s Junior Choir recorded their own version of the world famous song,
‘Ave Maria’, with proceeds donated to the Dun Laoghaire based aid agency.
GOAL is still heavily involved in the country that was left devastated in the aftermath of one of the biggest typhoons ever to make landfall.
More than 6,000 people were killed, while over 14 million were affected. Four million of these people were left homeless.
Initially the Dalkey choir recorded the single in honour of the recently deceased Nobel Laureate, Seamus Heaney, who they shared a stage with at the Dalkey Book Festival in 2012.
However, in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan, they decided to release it to raise money for those most affected by the disaster.
The single is now available to buy in the iTunes Store for just 99 cents, which you can find by simply searching for
‘Kingston Academy of Music’ or through the GOAL website, www.goal.ie.
All funds raised will go towards GOAL’s programmes, which include providing vulnerable families with shelter materials, rebuilding damaged schools and a cash-for-work project that pays locals in return for clearing rubble and debris left behind by the typhoon.
