Tony recently moved into his fully refurbished Harold’s Cross bungalow after spending years in a bedsit on his own.

“I really couldn’t have asked for better, I hardly think I deserve my new home,

? he said.

“I can’t describe it, it’s just a world of difference. I have a really happy feeling about this place and I love bringing people over to show it off.”

Tony was just one of six new residents who have moved into age friendly Alone homes since last October.

According to the charity, many of these older people were previously living in unsuitable conditions and were at risk of homelessness.

“Tony reached out to us after his landlord decided to sell the house that contained his bedsit, leaving Tony with nowhere to go,

? the CEO of Alone, Sean Moynihan, said.

“Having previously been in emergency homeless accommodation he was very apprehensive about returning to that kind of accommodation again.

“We are so grateful that we were able to move Tony into his own fully refurbished Alone home, this wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the public and our volunteers

?.

Housing provision is just one of the services that Alone provides to the one in 10 older people who are in need.

As well as highlighting the needs of vulnerable older people and ensuring that they get a fair representation in Government decision making, the busy charity also provides community response and a befriending service.

However, for every house that Alone makes available to older people in need, there are 20 applications.

“There is huge demand for housing for older people and Alone is determined, with the help of the public, to expand their housing service to meet the unprecedented requirements of the coming years,

? Mr Moynihan added.
