EUROPE is not the answer to all our problems, but it could and should be doing more to help create growth which brings decent jobs.
That’s the view of North Inner City ward councillor Mary Fitzpatrick who has been chosen by Fianna Fail to contest the Dublin constituency in the European Elections on May 23.
“It’s an honour to have won the support of the ordinary members of the Fianna Fáil party,
? said Cllr Fitzpatrick after her selection.
“Dublin needs a strong and active voice in Europe to push its interests and those of our country.
“Our arrogant and complacent Government has a policy of just waiting for things to turn up. I believe we need a more active voice in Europe and that is the role I want to play.
“We have a strong message and a real determination to win this seat. I will do everything I can over the next four months to make this happen.
?
Speaking at the convention, which over 700 Fianna Fail party members from Dublin attended, Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin said he believes Cllr Fitzpatrick has a really strong chance of winning a seat in Dublin.
“In the last four years Mary has been an incredibly active and successful leader of our group on Dublin City Council,
? said Deputy Martin.
“She’s worked to protect local services and push for more action to support job creation in our capital.
“Time and again Mary has shown that she can work across different communities and will never step back when it comes to her principles.
?
Deputy Martin added that it was the first time that all of the party’s members in Dublin had a direct choice in selecting its candidate for Europe.
