LORD Mayor of Dublin, OisÃn Quinn, will open the Dublin Chinese New Year Festival (DCNYF) this Thursday, January 30.
The opening ceremony will be held at the Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane with a special focus on some beautiful expressions of the horse in visual art.
One of Dublin’s biggest annual celebrations, the festival runs from January 31 to February 14.
A fantastic selection of events at various venues around the city is promised, many of which are free, and there is sure to be something for everyone to enjoy.
As this is the Chinese Year of the Horse, Lord Mayor Quinn pointed out that the horse has a special place in the hearts of the Irish people.
“I look forward to the Irish and Chinese communities really connecting in this Year of the Horse,
? he said.
“Dublin City Council has a very exciting programme of events taking place in the capital over the 2014 Chinese New Year Festival.
“The festival is a celebration of the very strong Chinese culture and community here in Dublin and showcases art, history, music, dance and cuisine in a wide range of events. This is certainly one festival not to be missed.

The Chinese New Year’s Day Concert with the China Conservatory of Music, in association with Kildare Village, takes place at the Chester Beatty Library on Friday, January 31.
The highlight of the festival, the Chinese New Year Carnival, will be held at Temple Bar Meeting House Square on Sunday, February 2 from 12noon to 5pm.
