IT’S that time of year again – oh yes it is! The star-studded cast at a Northside group is looking forward to entertaining locals with their latest panto.
This year’s Pantomime offering from Baldoyle Musical Society is the ever-popular
‘Sleeping Beauty’, with performances taking place at St Mary’s School, Baldoyle, over two weekends – January 10 to 12 and 17 to 19.
The society is offering the same reduced price tickets as last year of only $12 for adults and $10 for children and OAPs, so patrons will be getting great value for a what promises to be an excellent night’s entertainment.
Funnies and lovable rogues
‘Smash’ and
‘Grab’ will provide the laughs, while the hero of the show is Prince Justin who awakens Princess Selena from her prolonged slumber.
There are plenty of baddies also to provide the boo-hiss factor including Fairy GaGa, King Gru, and the BBC (Big Baddies Club!). A touch of magic comes in the form of a whole band of fairies, including Fairy Nuff and Fairy Liquid.
There is also a five-piece band which provides great backing for a very talented group of singers and dancers, and some great musical interludes from the kids’ chorus too.
Alan Whyte, chairman of Baldoyle Musical Society, pointed out that offering reduced ticket prices resulted in sell-out shows in 2013.
“People appreciated the extra value for money being offered, and that showed in higher audience numbers last year,
? said Mr Whyte.
“We wanted to ensure the same level of bookings for
‘Sleeping Beauty’ so we decided to maintain the low prices. After all, full houses ensure a better atmosphere, making the show so much more enjoyable for audiences and performers alike.
?
Nina O’Keeffe, president of Baldoyle Musical Society, is also looking forward to the show.
“A tremendous amount of work has been put in by the cast, chorus, and production team over the last few months,
? said Ms O’Keeffe.
“In addition, there are many people working behind the scenes to make it all happen, including those involved in set design and set building, costumes, and stage management.
“While we cannot boast the facilities of some of the city centre panto theatres, thanks to all this effort the Baldoyle panto offers a very comparable experience for our local patrons.
“In fact, the intimacy of our venue makes the show much more tangible and appealing to children, with lots of audience interaction.
?
Baldoyle Musical Society, whose exploits have featured in Northside People on numerous occasions, is one of the longest established musical societies on the Northside having being founded in 1972.
“It is very gratifying to know that people who saw the society’s pantos as kids nearly 40 years ago are still attending, these days often with their grandchildren in tow,
? added Ms O’Keeffe.
