THE New Life Centre in Darndale was delighted to receive six laptops which will replace ones stolen in a break-in during the summer.
The equipment was purchased from funds raised during a sponsored walk up Croagh Patrick last month.
Local men John Connors and Noel O’Reilly came up with the idea and organised a group to do the walk to raise funds jointly for the New Life Centre and Darndale Boxing Club.
Local businesses and companies supported the event and have also contributed to a 12 Days of Christmas Raffle which will take place on December 21 at the community centre in Darndale.
New Life Centre Director Christine O’Kelly said the overwhelming response and generosity of businesses and the local community has been astounding.
“We were all very upset when the laptops were stolen during a break-in to the centre last summer,
? stated Ms O’Kelly.
“It is heartening to see the warmth and generosity of John and Noel who have given up their free time to organise the walk and other fundraising events for the benefit of some of the smaller community organisations; it’s a demonstration of community capacity building and co-operation at its best.
? Tickets for the 12 Days of Christmas raffle which has some fantastic prizes can be bought from the New Life Centre.
