Future is bright for St James Gaels

From strength to strength: St James' Gaels are on a roll

St James Gaels GAA Club will be celebrating their 20th anniversary next year.

Despite this part of the club only being in existence for a relatively short period of time, it has enjoyed many great achievements, as well as having much needed laughs and fundraisers along the way.

The Crumlin based side was set up back in July 1994 as the result of the amalgamation of An Caisleán and Guinness GAA Clubs.

The two clubs were struggling for numbers over a couple of years before officers of both teams agreed to join forces.

Eoin Darcy has been with the club since it was set up. He had started playing with Guinness GAA Club through all age groups before finishing up as a player with the Gaels.

Nowadays the former nominee for

‘Dublin’s Finest Supporter’ is taking charge of the St James Gaels All-Stars academy group which is for ages five to eight.

Eoin, who spent a number of years as Secretary of the club, has now dropped down the rails to assistant secretary.

“After a number of years, it was time to take a step back to the assistant job,

? Eoin said, although he remains a big part of the club and is always willing to lend a helping hand.

When he stopped playing with the club, Eoin took up a coaching role starting with the younger age groups before moving up to the seniors for a year or two.

Eoin is a proud and loyal club man who was recently entered into a Vodafone run competition to acknowledge those supporters who are always there for their club.

Eoin managed to make it into the final five but unfortunately did not take home the e2,000 prize money for his club.

Despite this, Eoin is still fully upbeat about the club and is keeping his love for the game going through the St James Gaels All-Stars setup.

Eoin also praised the current senior setup within the club.

“We’ve a good mix of players, both and experienced,

? he said.

“The seniors have had great success with this mixture recently upon winning the Junior B Championship Final in 2012.

“It’s great to be able to bring success like that to a club that is still trying to find its feet in a sense.

“With youth players on the junior team and also great numbers at the Academy, the future is looking bright for the blue and yellow of St James Gaels.
