KERRY GAA legend Colm ‘Gooch’ Cooper can expect a bit of stick from Dubs fans when he visits Dublin schools over the coming months as part of AIB’s Build a Bank Competition.
Cooper is the bank’s youth ambassador and part of his duties involve supporting the initiative that encourages transition year students to set up their own school bank.
Throughout the year he’ll be supporting students involved in the Build a Bank Challenge and will no doubt be reminded of who the current All-Ireland champions are, and who they beat in the semi-final.
Cooper will be at the schools to deliver hints and tips to students participating in the bank competition and he’ll also be taking part in football skills sessions.
“Students throughout Dub-lin have had a long and successful history in competing in the AIB Build a Bank Challenge and I would encourage teachers and students to get involved today,
? he said.
“I am looking forward to meeting many of the students who will get involved in this year’s competition.
?
The Build a Bank competition links directly to the Business Studies curriculum and is designed to help students develop key business and entrepreneurial skills in a fun, interactive way.
Students who take part set up and manage their own school bank and then compete at a national final for a top prize of
?¬5,000.
This year, AIB has introduced a best
‘digital bank’ award in conjunction with CoderDojo, a global collaboration providing free and open learning to young people in programming technology.
The award will be adjudicated by James Whelton, co-founder of CoderDojo at the national final.
“We are delighted to be involved in AIB’s Build a Bank Challenge this year as it has the similar values of learning in a fun, open and collaborative way,
? Whelton said.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing the innovative ideas the students will come up with and I would advise them to make cool stuff happen with this and use different technologies to make their school banks a success.
“We look forward to meeting everyone at the regional finals and best of luck to all involved.
