Deputy Finian McGrath (Ind) had asked the Minister if a plan had been put in place to deal with crime in the area.

Last month, this newspaper reported that members of the Irish Kite Surfing Association (IKSA) had their cars broken into and serious damaged caused.

The most recent incidents, confirmed to Northside People by the gardai, occurred on October 12 and 13 at Burrow and Dollymount beaches respectively.

In the Dail, Minister Shatter told Deputy McGrath that the Garda authorities were aware of the problems referred to and that a number of proactive initiatives have been implemented to prevent thefts from vehicles in the area.

“Crime prevention leaflets have been distributed at the beach by members of the Community Policing Unit and extra resources have been deployed to public amenities in the area,

? said Minister Shatter.

“Areas with a high incidence of this type of criminality are identified through crime analysis and intelligence reports and are targeted by District Patrol resources including uniform and plain clothes personnel supported by Community Policing personnel.

“District and Divisional personnel are regularly supplemented by national resources to specifically target this type of criminality.

Minister Shatter said local Garda management closely monitors patrols, and other operational strategies in place, in conjunction with crime trends and policing needs of the local community.

This is to ensure optimum use is made of Garda resources, and the best possible service is provided to the public.

“I am further assured that the situation is being kept under review,

? he added.
