GARDAI are continuing to investigate a fire which took place at a housing development in Baldoyle last Saturday week (October 26).
The fire broke out at a building located at the entrance to Red Arches, The Coast.
A spokesman for the Garda Press Office told Northside People:
“Gardai in Howth are investigating a fire that occurred at a premises on Coast Road, Baldoyle, at approximately 3.20pm on October 26. No arrests (have been made) to date and the investigation is ongoing.
?
Brendan Guiden, who lives at Red Arches Road, The Coast, said Menolly Homes used the building as a marketing suite when they were beginning to sell houses in the development.
“When we bought our home here seven years ago I was promised at the time that the building would be handed over for community use when the development was complete.
“Now since all the homes are sold, the building should be turned over to the community for locals to use as a youth club and for adult groups.
“I have two daughters, aged four and nine. In four years’ time there will be nowhere for the youth of the area to go.
“We have a fully occupied housing estate and there will be a desperate need for a youth club.
?
Mr Guiden said he would like to see dialogue between Fingal County Council, Menolly Homes and the residents.
“I would have no problem donating my time to it,
? he added.
“If there was a plan to turn the building into a youth facility the community and local businesses would come on board.
?
Mr Guiden is a member of the community garden in the development which has been a big success.
A spokeswoman for Fingal County Council told Northside People it was aware of the fire.
“An engineer from our Inspectorate Division carried out a site inspection last week,
? she said.
“At the moment gardai are carrying out a forensic investigation. The building is the property of Menolly Homes so any repairs must be carried out by them.”
Northside People was unable to contact Menolly Homes at the time of going to press.
