Over 100 delegates voted at the selection convention held at Parnell’s GAA Club in Coolock.

Cllr Brabazon, a solicitor from Donaghmede, has been a councillor since 2003.

Cllr Mahon, a community worker in Artane, was recently co-opted onto Dublin City Council after narrowly losing the seat that he won in 2004 by just two votes in the 2009 Local Elections.

Chairing the convention, Senator Darragh O’Brien congratulated the two men and also paid tribute to the three other people contesting the nomination.

“The wealth of talent on offer for members to select proves that the party is vibrant and alive, and if we continue the hard work, will win seats to represent the people of Dublin next year,

? said Senator O’Brien.

Speaking after their selection, Cllrs Mahon and Brabazon thanked the members for entrusting them with the responsibility to run for Fianna Fáil once more in an election.

Cllr Mahon believes Fianna Fáil is the party best placed to represent the people of Dublin on their council.

“I intend to work as hard as ever to ensure that the people of Beaumont-Donaghmede get the best possible service on Dublin City Council,

? he said. Cllr Brabazon echoed Sean Paul Mahon’s sentiments and said:

“It is the utmost honour to be an elected representative for the people of my area.

“I thank the members here tonight for their support and trust, and promise to continue my hard work as a Dublin city councillor.

Meanwhile, Daryl Barron, a Fianna Fáil area representative for Donaghmede and one of the other three people who contested the nomination, said he hasn’t given up hope of being added to the ticket at a later date.

Fianna Fail headquarters had instructed that only two candidates be selected at this stage.

“I would like to congratulate both Tom and Sean Paul on their selection and remind them that I haven’t gone away and fully expect to be added to the ticket shortly,

? Mr Barron said.

“It was obvious to all at the selection convention that Fianna Fail are strong in this ward and with nine seats to be filled Fianna Fail have a realistic chance of winning three.

Mr Barron vowed to continue to work for the community as a local area representative.

“If and when selected, I will be in a strong position to deliver a third seat for the party in my home base,

? he added.
