Demolition begins on vacant houses

Demolition work begins at Buttercup in Darndale.

DUBLIN City Council has commenced the demolition of 25 houses at Buttercup in Darndale. It’s proposed that 35 new houses will be constructed in their place under a redevelopment plan.

A spokesperson for Dublin City Council told Northside People:

“We are currently awaiting approval from the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government to proceed to tender in relation to the construction of the new houses.

Local councillor Larry O’Toole (SF) has welcomed the development.

“After years of campaigning by local residents the demolition of vacant houses at Buttercup Park will make way for new homes,

? he said.

“We have waited years for this and now hopefully we can look forward to Department of Environment funding for building new, much-needed homes.

“The pressure must now be kept on the department to release the funding.

Cllr O’Toole added: I will be calling together local residents to set up an effective campaign to strongly lobby the housing minister.
