A HOMEOWNER affected by pyrite has welcomed the news that e10 million in funding has been approved to tackle the crisis.
The Government has approved Exchequer funding for a pyrite remediation scheme to be implemented under the auspices of the Pyrite Resolution Board (PRB).
Dublin North TD Alan Farrell (FG) said:
“As an affected homeowner I am delighted that homeowners who previously had no recourse regarding the remediation of their home may now apply to the board for assistance.
“The Government has approved an initial e10 million in funding to get the scheme up and running.
“Additional funding will be allocated over the next two years from the Capital Stimulus Programme in early 2014.
?
Deputy Tommy Broughan has given the news a cautious welcome.
“The initial funding will cover approximately 1,000 houses which have been estimated by the PRB as
‘affected by pyritic heave and requiring immediate remediation’,
? he said.
He added, however, that legislation to put the PRB on a statutory basis has not yet come before the Dail.
Deputy Broughan noted with
“concern
? that thousands of homeowners who have less than severe damage (in the amber category) will not be able to avail of pyrite remediation funding.
“I would strongly urge Minister Phil Hogan to bring the Pyrite Bill before Dáil Ã?ireann without any further delay,
? he added.
Dublin Bay North TD Sean Kenny (Lab) said the pyrite problem was part of a
“dreadful
? legacy of building failures this Government inherited.
“I know that it is determined to move on this issue and will ensure that the pyrite remediation scheme is delivered in the shortest possible timeframe,
? he stated.
Dublin Bay North TD Terence Flanagan (FG) said: “I would urge any of my constituents who have pyrite in their homes to take a look at the website www.pyriteboard.ie for details of the scheme and the application process.
?
“Local councillor Declan Flanagan (FG) also welcomed the Minister’s announcement.
“A number of constituents have been impacted by pyrite in their homes and I am confident that an effective resolution process is in place to address the problem,
? he said.
