A LOCAL TD has described almost a dozen boarded up houses in a Dublin 15 estate as
“unforgiveable
? at a time when thousands are on council waiting lists.
Dublin West TD, Patrick Nulty, said he came across the homes in Corduff Park and Grove while out canvassing recently.
“The community who were paying rent or a mortgage were being deliberately ignored and neglected by Fingal County Council,
? said.
“I counted nearly a dozen boarded up homes. Many of these units have been boarded up for a very long time.
“It is grossly insulting to the local community who are doing so much work in the area to support young people and keep things looking nice.
“Equally it is devastating for the tens of thousands of families on the waiting list to see these homes boarded up. In one corner I found a cluster of homes boarded up together.
“I would invite the county manager or our two local ministers to come down and say if they would be happy with the situation if they were residents.
“There was also some offensive graffiti on one of the houses. This situation of boarded up housing affects Mulhuddart, Blakestown and Whitestown too.

Deputy Nulty said he had written to the council’s housing department demanding answers on when the homes can be repaired and re-let.
“The foot dragging and excuses has to stop,
? he added.
Fingal County Council confirmed it has 11 vacant units in the Corduff Park and Grove area.
“Six of these units have become vacant in the recent past,
? a council spokesperson said.
“Two dwellings are expected to be allocated shortly. The remaining units have been referred to the county architect and are at various stages of the pre-let repair process in line with the requirements of national procurement guidelines.
