City turns pink for breast cancer month

Holly Carpenter, Centra retailer Breda Cahill and the Irish Cancer Society's Emma Barrett are pretty in pink this October.

BREAST Cancer Awareness Month has kicked off in Dublin.

Throughout October, Centra stores across the city will be brightening up communities with their pink walks in aid of the Irish Cancer Society’s programme.

Each walk promises to be a great family day out with refreshments served along the way.

A total of 12 Centra stores in Dublin city centre including outlets on Dame Street, Wellington Quay, Cathal Brugha Street, Camden Street, Westland Row, Capel Street, North King Street, Wicklow Street, Charlemount Street, Thomas Street, Pearse Street and Parnell Street will be hosting walks on Sunday, October 13.

Seventeen other stores in communities across Dublin will also be hosting a pink walk.

This is the fourth year that Centra has supported the Irish Cancer Society’s’ Action Breast Cancer campaign and they have raised over e1 million to date.

The Dublin city centre walk is one of four large-scale city walks taking place next month, with three others taking place in Waterford, Cork and Galway.

In total 23 counties will see their communities turn pink as participants take to the streets of their local towns and villages to increase awareness of breast cancer in Ireland and to raise much needed money for a very worthy charity.

Over 200 Centra stores across the country have signed up to host a pink walk which will see thousands of people pounding the pavements.

All funds raised will go directly to the Irish Cancer Society, which helps provide information, advice and support services for women with breast cancer in Ireland.

Martin Kelleher, the Managing Director of Centra, said the walks have been a huge success to date.

“They have been growing year on year,

? he said.

“It is a testament to our stores who show real community spirit and drive much needed funds for a cause that touches so many people around the country.

“At Centra, we continuously look at new and innovative ways to drive our fundraising endeavours and we hope this year will be the most successful to date.

Throughout October, Centra will be selling a specially designed

‘bag for life’ in 460 stores nationwide for

?¬3, with proceeds going to the charity.

Also, keep a look out for special pink products in each store, such as flowers, plants, milk, apples and mushrooms, with a donation being made from the sale of each one to the Irish Cancer Society Action Breast Cancer fund.
