A NORTHSIDE-BASED charity has signed up for a new recycling scheme that will save baby wipes packaging from going to landfill while also raising important funds.

The Central Remedial Clinic (CRC) in Clontarf has signed up as one of Ireland’s first public collection points for the JOHNSON’S® Baby Wipes Packaging Brigade.

Local people can now drop off their used baby wipes packaging of all brands to the public access collection box at the clinic from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

The Central Remedial Clinic, who maintains the collection box, will send in the collected baby wipes packaging to TerraCycle for recycling. For the weight of every empty pack collected by the community, two cents is earned for the clinic.

All the collected material is then recycled into a variety of generic plastic products such as waste bins, garden paving and picnic tables meaning that less new raw materials need to be produced.

Jane Mitchell, administrator at Central Remedial Clinic, said:

“We are delighted to act as one of Ireland’s first public drop off locations for the JOHNSON’S® Baby Wipes Packaging Brigade.

“The Central Remedial Clinic started recycling its used baby wipes packaging with the Brigade over a year ago to reduce waste and raise funds for the clinic.

Ms Mitchell said they were delighted to introduce this new public access collection point at the clinic’s reception.

“Now the local community and our supporters can help us save a far greater amount of baby wipes packaging from local landfill and raise more money for our services, which are provided free of charge to our clients,

? she added.

“We encourage local people to drop off their used baby wipes packaging back to the collection box and tell their family and friends with children to do the same.
