Arthur’s Day caused controversy in the media last week. We asked our Facebook friends if they saw it as a showcase for Irish music talent or a clever marketing tool to promote alcohol. Here’s an edited selection of some of the comments we received.
Adio Hanbury: Music and a money-spinner. Very clever.
Wayne Flanagan Tobin: It’s a bit of both but overall a good day for the pub business which has been hit badly in recent years.
Alan Bird: Can’t see any harm in it. People out enjoying themselves, having a few beers and watching some live music. Sure we’ll be in for another cutthroat budget in a few weeks so why not enjoy it!
Zoe McCann: Booze.
Elizabeth Perrem: Christy Moore is entitled to his opinion but it’s a pity he expressed it in such a poor song.
