Twins peak to win tennis finals

Deirbhile and Seona O'Keeffe, from Clontarf Tennis Club

TWO rising tennis stars from the Northside both found themselves having a decisive advantage on the other when they met in a tournament recently.

Twin sisters Deirbhile and Seona O’Keeffe, from Clontarf Tennis Club, both entered two events in the Leopardstown Junior Open, the Under 16s and Under 18s Singles. And they both won through to face each other in both finals.

The girls were offered the option to play just one final with a winner takes all result. However, they both insisted they would play two finals against each other on the same day.

Deirbhile O’Keeffe won the Under 16 final and then the tables were reversed when Seona won the Under 18 final in a great exhibition of very competitive tennis.

Judging by the performances of these talented sisters, the future for tennis in Ireland looks very promising.

There were 306 entries in the 16th Leopardstown Junior Open which enjoyed good sunshine for most of the week. With the sunny weather every player was offered a free freeze pop.

The standard of tennis was very high and it is also worth noting that the matches were played in a very good spirit.
