DETAILS of this year’s Dublin Marathon and Race Series were unveiled recently as a new sponsor of the popular events came on board.
The Airtricity Dublin Mar-athon will take place on Bank Holiday Monday, October 28.
Airtricity, the energy proÂvider, will be the new title sponsor of the marathon and the Race Series, which take place in Swords and the Phoenix Park.
The 2013 Airtricity Race Series includes the Fingal 10K run on Sunday, July 21 in Swords; and the 5 Mile run on Saturday, June 29. The Frank Duffy 10 Mile will be run on Saturday, August 24; and the Dublin Half Marathon takes place on Saturday, September 21, all in the Phoenix Park.
These runs are the prelude to the Dublin Marathon 2013 in October.
Last year, a record number of over 14,000 people participated in the Dublin Marathon while over 20,000 took part across the Race Series in the months leading up to it.
Race director, Jim Aughney, said they were delighted that Airtricity had come on board as the new title sponsor.
“It is a huge endorsement of what we have achieved to date and strong support for our development plans,
? he said.
“Airtricity has a great history of supporting events in Ireland and we look forward to developing a long-term relationship with them.”
Stephen Wheeler, Airtricity Managing Director, added:
“As someone who ran my first Dublin Marathon in 2011, I’m delighted that Airtricity is the new energy behind this well-loved Dublin and national sporting event.
“Airtricity is a proud supporter of Irish sport at all levels. Through our investment as title sponsor of the Airtricity LeaÂgue, as well as Official Energy Partner to the FAI and its international teams, and as a supporter of local sports clubs nationwide through our wind farm community funds, we’re doing more to give back to local and national sporting clubs and events.

The well-known fitness expert and TV broadcaster Karl Henry, who was at the launch in the Phoenix Park, said the marathon and race series were fantastic ways to get fit.
“With this boost, hopefully more and more people will sign up and ensure that the 2013 Airtricity Dublin Marathon will surpass last year’s level and create new records,
? he said.
