In the wake of the Anglo tapes controversy, we asked our Facebook friends if they would trust politicians to hold an inquiry into the banking scandal. Here’s an edited selection of some of the comments we received.
Ashling Byrne: No way, not a hope. Kids in pre-school would do a better job!
Janet Dixon: No way . . . time for a new system where only honesty prevails. Well, I can dream, can’t I?
Maria Clery-Breen: Is this a trick question?
Stacey Hogg: No way, they’re as bad as the rest.
Natasha Shea: No! Independent inquiry!
Helen Mulholland: Definitely no. They do not have any integrity, honesty or backbone. They don’t care. They don’t have to worry about where their next penny comes from. Lots of people do.
Gaye Fagan: No!
Ann Kelly: Not a hope.
Geraldine Del Giudice: No way. It will end as a political game of tit for tat. We need outsiders involved. Politicians cannot be trusted.
Deirdre Ward: No, not to be trusted.
Ellen Cullen: Definitely not.
Liz Kellett Power: No, I don’t think so.
Stephen Rooney: No way will this be an independent inquiry. It shouldn’t be an inquiry, it should be a trial in a court. Someone should pay the price for ruining our nation.
Mandy Daly: Not at all. I’ve no trust in any of them.
Frances Mansfield: No, what we need is someone outside Ireland to do it. I don’t trust any of the politicians. Goodness knows what they would come up with. Don’t see why we need an expensive inquiry. What good would come of it?
Brian Byrne: Wouldn’t trust that shower to run a bath.
Louise Tobin Higgins: You must be joking!
Mary Kilroy: Not a chance!
Amanda Ryan: No way!
Pat Gannon: Not Irish politicians anyway. The Germans should be let hold the inquiry.
Michael Shanley: No, haul bogus bankers before the courts. Hopefully we might see some justice . . .
Cormac Smyth: It was FF politicians who allowed the regulator to be asleep at the wheel.
Joan Ward: No!
Deirdre Kennedy: A massive no…
Catherine Kelleher: Wouldn’t trust them . . .
Deirdre Ward: Big fat no.
