Thank you for the music...

This month saw the arrival of some of music’s heavy hitters as the summer concert season got underway. By all accounts Neil Young’s performance was underwhelming while Robbie Williams and Bon Jovi got some good press. We asked our Facebook followers for their feedback on the recent big gigs. Here’s an edited selection of some of the comments we received.

Oisín Ã? Dubhláin: Neil Young was awful. Sound was terrible but it really got bad when he launched into a very long period of making noise with his guitar which included a period of rubbing his guitar off the amps. With this craic he lost the crowd and most were chatting among themselves; many left. He played one or two of his better known songs, then a bizarre Dylan cover and then launched back into very extended jam like guitar play which completely failed to draw people back in. With bad sound, no atmosphere and nothing special on stage we left the arena along with a steady stream of people before it finished and were incredibly disappointed. I’m sure some pretentious eejits will claim I’m a philistine but I certainly wasn’t alone.

Caro Carolina: I missed all the gigs, thank God.

Trina Gilchriest: Bon Jovi – three solid hours of classic hits. Great value for money. Epic show and the sun came out!

Tina Lynch: Was at Bon Jovi and they rocked Slane!

Paul Bailey: At Robbie Williams – he was brilliant.

Mairead Leonard: I wouldn’t bother going to any of them, even if they were playing in my back garden.

Caroline O Brien Websdale: Bon Jovi – it was a brilliant day!

Amanda Kelly: Robbie and Bon Jovi were brilliant.

Linda McMenamin: Bon Jovi – what a night! Legends. They don’t make bands like that anymore.

Rachel Kelly: Robbie Williams and he rocked the Aviva. Deadly.

Tara Murphy: Bon Jovi at Slane . . . class!

Michelle Lane: Robbie was superb as always!

Sue Butler: Bon Jovi were AMAZING.

Tina Lynch: Bon Jovi were outstanding, as were the support acts. Great gig.

Stacey Hogg: Went to Bon Jovi in Slane. My first real outdoor concert and I loved it.

Andrea O’Neill Kelly: I was sitting in the Upper West Stand. I love Robbie and have seen him so many times including last Sept in the O2. I thought there were some sound issues on the right side of stage as at times it wasn’t good at all and lights went too at one point. He rocked the place, though! In saying that, I’ve enjoyed some of his other concerts more.

Elaine O’ Neill Ivory: [Robbie] Bored me to tears at one point.

Laura McGlynn: Amazing, his best to date.

Laura Prl: The dream became reality [Robbie Williams]!

David Costello: Excellent [Robbie Williams]

Hannah Sproston: He [Robbie Williams] was amazing!!!

Deborah Byrne: Bit dead in the middle. I’ve seen him [Robbie Williams] better. Not the best performance.

Helena Maria Raftery: I’ve seen him [Robbie Williams] more electric.

Audrey Edwards: Robbie was brill. I was in the pit right beside the stage.

Helen Brady Skidmore: It was fab [Robbie Williams].

Linda Newman: Robbie Williams was brilliant!
