SEÃN Paul Mahon has been selected by Fianna Fáil party members to fill the current vacancy on Dublin City Council for the Whitehall/Artane ward.
The vacancy arose following Cllr Julia Carmichael’s decisions to retire from the city council ahead of next year’s local elections.
The meeting, held at Parnell’s GAA Club in Coolock, was chaired by Fianna Fáil Dublin spokesperson, Senator Darragh O’Brien.
Cllr Mahon, who previously served on Dublin City Council, narrowly lost his seat in the 2009 Local Elections.
Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin congratulated Cllr Mahon on his selection.
“I am delighted to see a strong contest for the seat on Dublin City Council, the first co-option to be held under the party’s One Member One Vote system,
? he said.
“Sean Paul Mahon has remained a committed community activist on the ground since narrowly losing his seat in 2009.
“I want to pay tribute to Julia Carmichael who has provided long and distinguished service on Dublin City Council, previously serving as Fianna Fáil group leader.
“I wish Julia well in her future and thank her for her support for the party over many years.
?
Deputy Martin said the renewal of Fianna Fáil in Dublin is a huge challenge for the party.
“We will continue to build a strong team of people, like Seán Paul Mahon, across Dublin, who will be working on behalf of their communities,
? he added.
