A LOCAL woman would like to thank all those who contributed to her efforts in the Flora Women’s Mini Marathon.
Sharon Hammond and her family and friends took part in the event in memory of her mother Dolores and raised approximately
?¬5,000 for Friends of St Luke’s.
Ms Hammond told Northside People:
“We lived in Glin Grove, Coolock for over 30 years, and nine years ago my parents moved to Drogheda.
“My mam passed away on March 6 after a short fight with cancer. She was admitted to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital on December 21, 2012 suffering from a bad headache.
“On Christmas Eve she was diagnosed with a brain tumour and transferred to Beaumont Hospital.
“She underwent surgery and came home for two weeks before starting radiotherapy and chemotherapy in St Luke’s.
“Unfortunately after four weeks of treatment, the tumour grew back and she passed away on March 6. We held the funeral in Priorswood Church.
?
Ms Hammond said her mam was only 62 and had not been in hospital since her sister’s birth 41 years previous.
“She worked in Cadbury’s and would be well known in Artane where she worked in O’Connor’s Newsagent, Maryfield,
? she added.
“I’d like to thank all our family, friends and neighbours who sponsored us. We don’t have the final figure yet but it’s almost
?¬5,000.
“It means so much to be able to pay our gratitude forward and help other families that will go through what we did.
