LOVE was in air, and in the water, when two Northside scouts came upon a message in a bottle during a recent night-camp on their local beach.
Portmarnock scouts Aoife Whyte and Megan O’Connor took the bottle to their leader who revealed its romantic contents.
The bottle contained a photograph of an elderly couple on the back of which was written a dedication of love and heartbreak by the man in the photo, to his departed wife.
There was also a small gold-coloured religious medal and another small note where he spoke of his sadness and loss of his wife Margaret (whom he referred to as his
‘Peggy-Sue’) and how he missed her so much.
“Wherever you sail in the world my love, as promised, I will always be with you,
? he wrote.
The note was dated 31/11/12 and the only indication of where it came from was the word
‘Liverpool’ was written on it.
Portmarnock scout leader Peter O’Kelly said:
“This is such a poignant story we thought it would be good to send the bottle on its way again.
“We included details of where and when it was found by Portmarnock Scouts.
?
The scouts also urged any new finder who comes across it, to give their details and send the message of love on its way again.
