Students tackle cyberbullying issue for competition

Pictured are students from The Donahies who have reached the final of the YSI Showcase final.

YOUNG Social Innovators (YSI) is an Irish youth movement that encourages young people to speak out about issues that they care about. It helps to bring about change in society.

YSI enables teenagers all around Ireland to get involved in the world around them.

This year The Donahies Community School YSI team’s project was about Cyberbullying because they felt it was an issue that strongly affects young people throughout the world.

The YSI Speakout was held on March 8 in the Helix in DCU. YSI groups from all over Ireland presented their projects in the Speakout. The Donahies’

‘Don’t Be Mean Behind The Screen’ presentation went really well. They have gone through to the Showcase final which will take place on May 8.

The fourth year students are extremely proud of their work. Getting involved in Young Social Innovators gave the class a way to work as a team on something fun and produce something really brilliant. They felt it was one of the most memorable and brilliant parts of fourth year and their project was a huge success. They would like to thank their school principal Ms Nic Gearailt for supporting their project work and their YSI teacher Ms Cunningham for all her hard work and dedication to the project.

As reported in Northside People last week, Our Lady of Mercy College, Beaumont, have also been shortlisted for the 2013 Young Social Innovator of the Year title.
