A YOUNG Northside artist has shown that a picture does tell a thousand words, particularly when it comes to driving home the importance of buying Irish products and services.
Sophie Townsend (8), from Drumcondra, was among the winners of a Guaranteed Irish Primary Schools Art Competition and received an award from Minister for the Arts, Gaeltacht and Local Heritage, Jimmy Deenihan.
The competition was aimed at educating young people about the importance of buying Irish.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Minister Deenihan said the creative energy shown in the competition was
“certainly expressive, colourful and inspiring
?.
“The magnificent expression of childhood reflected in the entries is so uplifting,
? stated Minister Deenihan.
“It is proof, if any were needed, of the inventiveness of a child’s imagination. We need to ensure that we encourage this as they progress into second level education.
“Our children are our future and we are appealing to everyone young and old to look for Irish substitutes when shopping for gifts, food, clothes or services. This will help secure jobs and give young people a future.
?
Minister Deenihan added:
“Consumers will be surprised at the range of quality Irish goods out there at competitive prices.
