Jobs boost for the Southside

OVER 60 new jobs were created on the Southside last week.

The new Tesco Metro store in Terenure was officially opened last Thursday, creating 34 jobs in the local area.

The opening brings to over 2,350 the number of people employed by Tesco in the Dublin City area.

Assisting Tesco Terenure Metro Store Manager, Cathal Conway, to cut the ribbon were members of the Templeogue Synge Street Ladies GAA Team, who received a new set of jerseys in celebration of the store opening.

Speaking at the event, Mr Conway said:

“We are delighted to welcome everyone to our brand new store in Terenure which offers consumers a wide choice of grocery products at great Tesco prices. We believe that the new store will be an important addition to the community and we look forward to getting to know our new customers, and to building a long and positive relationship with the community in Terenure.

Meanwhile, a further 30 jobs were created by the payments processing firm OmniPay at its headquarters in Clonskeagh.

This brings its workforce to almost 200. The company was founded in Dublin in 2000 and currently employs 165 staff.

The US company plans to develop and extend its global payments processing platform, which currently processes more than one billion transactions on behalf of 31 merchant acquiring banks and payment processors worldwide.
