Local youth worker on shortlist for national award

Youth worker John Healy from Walkinstown

A LOCAL youth worker has been shortlisted for an award in this year’s Panadol supported Volunteer Ireland Awards.

John Healy from Walkinstown has been nominated in the Children and Youth category and is among 31 volunteers shortlisted for the annual awards which celebrate and recognise volunteers across Ireland.

John has worked for the young people in Walkinstown for 40 years and is key leader of Bru Youth Club in Crumlin. The club has two sections, junior and senior, that meet on Monday and Thursday evenings which cater for 100 young people from the Crumlin and Walkinstown area.

An overall winner and category winners in the Panadol supported initiative will be announced on Wednesday (December 5) at a gala event in Dublin hosted by RTE Presenter Claire Byrne.

Dublin City South Volunteer Centre Manager, Edwina Dewart, congratulated John on making the shortlist and said this year Volunteer Ireland had received the largest number of nominations ever.
