WITH just weeks to go before 600 volunteers embark on the Niall Mellon Township Trust Building Blitz preparations are already underway for their arrival in Cape Town.

A total of 124 volunteers from Dublin will be block laying, painting, tiling and roofing to improve the living conditions for those living in the township of Wallacedene close to Cape Town from November 10 to 17.

They are part of the 600 from across Ireland who will descend on the building site to ensure that 70 families will be taken out of the horrendous conditions they are currently in to build a home they can be proud of.

This is the tenth year the Niall Mellon Township Trust has been building in the townships of South Africa.

Niall Mellon said:

“We are extremely proud that by the end of this year’s blitz 18,000 volunteers will have helped to dramatically change lives for the better in the townships of South Africa.

“Thanks to them 100,000 people are safer, healthier and happier and most importantly have a place to call home. This could not have been achieved without the determination and spirit of each volunteer and their support from home.

The 2012 week long annual Building Blitz will be the last one in Cape Town. Over the past 10 years the Niall Mellon Township Trust annual building blitz in South Africa has been a life changing experience for tens of thousands of people.

The good news is they have just been given the green light to pick up all shovels and trowels and move to a new country within Africa for 2013. Whilst the destination is changing, everything else will remain the same. To find out more log onto www.nmtownshiptrust.com/Building-Blitz.aspx, or alternatively tel 01-494 8200.
